Program Overview

What is the SouthPark Skipper?

  • The SouthPark Skipper is a free, on-demand rideshare service available in the SouthPark business district starting November 15, 2024. This program is a project of SouthPark Community Partners and is operated by Freebee. 

When will the SouthPark Skipper be available?

  • The SouthPark Skipper is scheduled to be available to the public starting on November 15, 2024. The first few weeks will be a testing period, so be patient as we iron out the wrinkles! 

Who is the operator of this service?

  • SouthPark Community Partners (SCP), a nonprofit that serves the SouthPark area, is bringing the SouthPark Skipper to our community through a one-year pilot program. SCP has partnered with Freebee, a rideshare company, to operate the service. Freebee operates in 50 cities across the eastern United States. 

Using the SouthPark Skipper

How do I get a ride on the SouthPark Skipper?

  • To ride the SouthPark Skipper, download the Freebee app, which is available in your smartphone’s app store. If you do not have a smartphone or would like to request additional accessibility accommodations, please contact Freebee Dispatch at 855-918-3733.
  • Once you’ve set up your profile, request a ride by using the Freebee app to select your destination. Then confirm your pickup location. You can view a map of the service area within the Freebee app or by visiting www.southparkclt.org/ride 

Where can I go with the SouthPark Skipper? 

  • The SouthPark Skipper will provide you access to any destination within the SouthPark Municipal Service District. You can view a map of the service area within the Freebee app or by visiting www.southparkclt.org/ride

Who can ride the SouthPark Skipper?

  • The service is available to anyone! Riders 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

How much does it cost to ride? 

  • The SouthPark Skipper is free to use! 

What are the hours for the service?

  • Effective November 15, the SouthPark Skipper will offer service from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. 

Do I tip my driver? 

  • Drivers are compensated with an hourly wage courtesy of SouthPark Community Partners. Gratuities for exceptional service are appreciated but not required. 

Safety

Who are the drivers?

  • The SouthPark Skipper drivers will be local community ambassadors, who are fully screened and trained in partnership with our vendor, Freebee. They will be knowledgeable about everything that’s happening in the SouthPark district. 

Are there other safety measures? 

  • The SouthPark Skipper fleet is equipped with cameras covering the interior and exterior of the vehicles and all rides are recorded for driver and passenger safety.

Who is funding this service? 

  • SouthPark Community Partners, an economic development nonprofit that focuses on the vibrancy of the SouthPark business district, is paying to launch this service through a one-year pilot program. SCP will invest about $460,000 this fiscal year in the program.
